My first experience with my deceased cousin was in 1983. He had been killed the previous year and my family and I had gone to visit his parents (my aunt & uncle) who lived over 2000 miles away from us. I was to stay in his old bedroom. The first night I had felt a strange presence in the room, a coldness but not overwhelming. I just felt that somebody was there watching me. There were a collection of his baseball caps on the wall and one evening as I was just lying on the bed, one mysteriously fell to the floor. No movement or wind could have done it, for it was a basement room. I asked my aunt about it the next day and she said the same thing had happened to her just a few days after he was killed.
The floors are very creaky in the house and there is a distinct sound to the kitchen door that leads outside. I would hear someone walking the halls in the middle of the night and the door slamming shut. Everyone was in bed.
The next really prominent experience was in 1989. I had just had my first child 3 months before and my husband and I had gone to visit my family in that same house. It was our first night there and I had brought the baby monitor so that I could listen to my baby if she happened to wake up in the night. She was in the room next door to mine in a crib. I woke up due to noises that I heard on the baby monitor. First I thought I was dreaming, but then I could not only hear my baby daughter wiggling in her crib but the sound of a male voice, talking very sweetly to her. I wondered who it was, since I knew my husband's voice and I knew it wasn't him. I listened for a while and decided to get up and check on her. When I came into the room where she was, I got a sudden chill but no one was there. The fine hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I picked up my baby and brought her into bed with me. I wasn't scared, but I just felt weird, a feeling that I cannot describe to this day.
The next
morning, I told my aunt about my experience and what I heard over the monitor.
She said that it was exactly what Scott used to say when he talked to babies. I
never knew that before. The following few nights after that, I would hear the
same creaking of someone walking up and down the hallway and then out the back
kitchen door, since it was such a distinctive noise. The next morning I asked
who was up walking the halls and went outside. They all said they were in bed,
no one admitted to being awake at the time that I heard these noises.
