When I was three years old my grandfather became quite ill with leukemia and went to NY City into a hospital, where he died. We were up from our home in Washington to New Jersey for, I assume, this illness, though I was probably not told he was seriously ill, if anything at all.
My grandparents house was enormous and in those days kids wandered around pretty freely, even someone not yet 4 years old. It was a bright sunny day and I was walking up the back stairs to the little porch or entryway above the patio and there was my grandfather standing there smiling. Just a normal, friendly smile, nothing beatific. I didn't jump into his arms or anything, he was a Victorian man (my father called him "sir" or "father"). But he was not strict, just undemonstrative emotionally.
He squatted down to my level and, I think, took hold of my shoulders to get my attention, though I am not sure about this, or even that he squatted, but he was quite tall and he must have in order to talk with me.
What he said was simple and direct; "I am going away for a long time and I will see you again someday." That's it. I think he hugged me but I am not sure. I also think I left to play or explore, he didn't disappear or anything that I am sure would have scared me.
Now there are a number of explanations. First, that it was actually him in real life telling me about his impending trip to the hospital. But he looked healthy and I gather for his trip to the hospital he was ill and it was sudden. Moreover, he didn't know how sick he was so even if we were visiting, he would not have told me this.
In any case, if I was there just before he was taken to the hospital, I am sure I would have sensed the gravity of the situation from the atmosphere in the house. That same year my uncle was burned in a plane crash (he was a test pilot) and I was with my other grandmother and my mother (his sister) when the call came in. I knew something was horribly wrong before they told me.
Another explanation is that I dreamed this after the fact. Now, I accept that this is actually possible but if it was a dream (that is, if I had the experience while I was asleep) it still think it was an ADC because he conveyed information to me that I did not know but later was confirmed to be true. So perhaps he visited me while I was asleep, but he did visit me.
But I think the final indication that this was real contact was that 58 years later I still remember it quite vividly. I don't remember my dreams when I woke up this morning but I remember this.
