I heard of my husband's death in Alexandria. He had to be buried before sunset same day. I spent the night with his sister. The next morning I forced myself to come home because we had two cats to feed and I also wanted to go home. He had died alone at home. When I entered our home I was numb and shocked. I walked into the bedroom where he had died. I stood beside the bed he had died in, and the two cats stood outside the door. I stood beside the bed, I felt a breeze (warm) it was March and reasonably hot in Egypt on my left hand, suddenly I felt a much stronger, for want of a better word, movement of air, to my right, and much, colder. I was startled and said 'what's that'. I (regret now) pulled my hand away. I hadn't expected that. I checked everything in the flat was closed, no windows open, nothing.
I have no explanation
for this, but that it was him. It was surprising (this might sound cold) but I
had not expected that. There was 'something' there.
Did you ONLY
sense an awareness of presence of the deceased without actually seeing, hearing,
feeling or smelling them?
Yes
Did you hear the
deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?
No
Did you feel a
touch or experience any physical contact from the deceased?
Yes On my right
arm
Was
the touch familiar or unfamiliar?
Unfamiliar (because it
was unexpected and cold, much colder than room temperature)
Was
anything communicated by the touch?
No, I pulled my hand
away and I was also completely unreceptive through numbness and grief
Is
there any possibility what you felt was from any other source present in the
surroundings at the time of your experience?
No
Did you see the
deceased?
No
Did you smell a
distinct smell, scent, fragrance or odor associated with the deceased?
Yes
What
smell, scent, fragrance or odor did you smell?
About 3 months later
when I returned from my school. A sense of 'personal odor' continually near the
bedroom door and the bedroom door closed one morning (very silently) after I had
walked out. This was in July (31/2 months after Mahmoud had died). There was no
sound. Every morning, when I went into bedroom I sat, that particular morning I
opened the wardrobe and was very upset, hugging and embracing clothes, and very
distraught. Then walked out of room and into bathroom. Suddenly, when I reached
bathroom and 'sat on loo', door had closed.
Was
the smell, scent, fragrance or odor familiar?
Yes, it was his
personal scent
Was
anything communicated by the smell?
No, but I felt
comforted
Is
there any possibility that the smell, scent, fragrance or odor was from any
other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?
Perhaps because
of the heat from his things (this is Egypt)
How long did the
experience last?
The scent, on
and off, v. strong at first and then fading (which makes me think it may be
connected with heat)
Was the beginning
and end of the experience gradual or more sudden?
No
Could you sense the
emotions or mood of the deceased?
No
Did the deceased
give you information you did not previously know?
No
How do you
currently view the reality of your experience?
Experience was
definitely real
Please explain why you view the reality of your experience as real or not
real:
Was unexpected and has made me think.
Was
the experience dream like in any way?
No
Describe in
detail your feelings/emotions during the experience:
I felt I had no
feelings when the first incident happened (but of course I must have). I
was grieving very badly when I experienced the follow up.
Was there any
emotional healing in any way following the experience?
Uncertain
The first was too
soon (the next day). The next made me happy (door closing)
What was the best
and worst part of your experience?
Shocked and frightened,
and also hopeful and happy (I know that sounds contradictory) but that's how I
felt.
Has your life
changed specifically as a result of your experience?
Yes
Describe:
Because my
husband died, and now I pray much more every day.
Did you have
any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
Yes
Became more religious
Did the experience
give you any spiritual understandings such as life, death, afterlife, God,
etc.?
Yes
I had a basic belief in God, but now I feel there is much more. In a way it
scares me.
Death Compacts
are when two or more living people promise among themselves that whoever dies
first will try to contact the other(s). Have you ever made such a
compact?
No
Did you observe or
hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be
verified later?
No
What emotions
did you feel during the experience?
Sometimes hope,
sometimes despair, but the touch I felt was real and absolute and the door
closing was real and absolute, the scent could be attributed to the heat (40
degrees)
Was the experience
witnessed or experienced by others?
No
Have you shared
this experience with others?
No
Have you shared this
experience formally or informally with any other researcher or web site?
No
Is there anything
else you would like to add regarding your experience?
There were some
anomalies regarding phone calls, i.e. my brother in the UK rang because my name
had come up on his mobile (I hadn't called him - this happened approx. 6 days
after death); then friend phoned to say my name had shown up on her phone ( I
hadn't called her either) approx. 1 month after death - I have no explanation
for this. Then at end Aug phone rang (mobile) and when I answered there was
nobody. Number registered 0166666667. Saw number was odd. When I rang - voice
said no such number.
Were there any
associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the
experience?
No
Following the
experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or
substances which reproduced any part of the experience?
No
Did you ever in
your life have a near-death experience, out of body experience or other
spiritual event?
No
Did the questions
asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your
experience?
Yes
Please offer any
suggestions you may have to improve this questionnaire.
None - hope it was
helpful
