This is my After Death Communication with my dad. My dad passed away
January 8, 2019, after a long, brave struggle with cancer. His actual death was
due to a sudden onset of sepsis, a complication of the cancer. I was devastated
I didn’t get to say a proper goodbye and have more time with him.
The night after his local memorial service, I dreamt of entering an empty
blue-gray office area. The space was very austere, decorated only with plants of
the Pothos variety. These plants were placed in even intervals across the
counters and office dividers. When I looked out the windows, all I could see was
fog/mist.
It didn’t take me long to realize this office appeared similar to the regional
government offices my dad visited during his career. I had the privilege of
accompanying him in a few of these offices. As I realized this similarity, I saw
an automatic glass door leading to an inner office space.
As I tried to enter the inner office, a Do Not Enter sign appeared on the door.
The sign specified the door had “severe hiccups.” It dawned on me the “severe
hiccups” was meant as a casual, comical term to describe the superficial
mechanical reason the door would not open for deeper spiritual reasons. It
sounded like something my dad or one of his colleagues would say about a glitch
in their engineering work.
Before I had the chance to be disappointed the door would not open, I saw my
dad. He was tall, solid, and healthy again. I was so relieved to see him that I
forgot he passed away. That fact didn’t seem relevant as we embraced.
My dad appeared two to three decades younger than when he passed. He was wearing
a long time favorite jacket, a lightweight work shirt,
and some polyester-blend khakis he had not worn for a few decades. I
didn’t look at his foot attire, at least not yet.
I began dancing with my dad in this office, though no music played. We danced a
fast waltz, very reminiscent of the waltz we danced at my wedding reception. As
we waltzed around the office, I was amazed at how light my dad was on his feet.
This is when I finally looked down towards my dad’s feet, expecting to see his
feet secured in the cowboy boots he always wore to the office. Instead, I
noticed my dad’s legs hovering just above the ground, with his feet not visible.
Startled, though not afraid, I pulled back and exclaimed: “you’re a ghost!”
Peace and happiness found me as I woke up from this encounter. This dream was
the reassurance I needed that my dad was in his element in Heaven. My dream
interpretation is my dad came out to the office waiting area and gave me a last
dance since I was not allowed through the automatic door, or my dad’s version of
Heaven’s Door.
The additional significance of dancing revealed itself to me after this dream.
When I began taking care of my dad following his cancer diagnosis, a popular
song containing dance as a central theme often played in my head. I assigned my
own meaning to this song, associating it with the roles my dad and I were
playing in each other’s lives as I cared for him. I never shared this with my
dad on earth, yet believe he is aware after he passed away.
