My grandfather died when I was 16 years old; he was a beloved man and his death was hard on all of us. Time passed and the wound healed; we moved forward and learned to live life without him. The truth is that although I miss him like all my deceased relatives, at the time of the NDE, I had already gone through the stages of grief and I was fine.
However, one night when I was 18 years old, while I was sleeping, I had a dream that as of today recalls in many ways an NDE. I remember that I was in my grandfather's house and that it was exactly the same as we had left it. I was next to him, we talked and laughed, but shortly after, I looked at the door of the house and noticed that there was a blinding light in it. I looked at my grandfather and hugged him while we cried; shortly afterwards, everything lit up and I woke up. When I woke up, I realized that I did not remember at all what my grandfather and I had talked about during the dream. I am now 24 years old, and I remember that dream to this day with total precision, and the truth is that it has never felt like a dream.
Later, I did have dreams where deceased relatives of mine
appeared; however, these did feel like dreams.
But
the experience with my grandfather is etched in my mind and I
recently learned about NDEs, so I want to share my experience so
as to try to figure out if my dream falls within that
classification, and to find out what exactly NDEs are.
At the time of your experience was there an associated
life-threatening event?
No
Was the experience difficult to express in words?
No
At what time during the experience were you at your highest
level of consciousness and alertness? During
the whole dream, I was just as conscious as in my daily life.
How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during
the experience compared to your normal everyday consciousness
and alertness? Normal
consciousness and alertness. I was just as conscious and alert
as in my daily life.
Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience. I saw perfectly, as in my daily life.
Please compare your hearing during the experience to your
everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of
the experience. I
don't know, I don't remember anything that I said during the
experience
Did you see or hear any earthly events that were occurring

your physical / earthly body?
No
What emotions did you feel during the experience?
Joy, peace, and some sadness due to the farewell.
Did you pass into or through a tunnel?

lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for

for 2 years at the time.

afterlife

information / awareness that you have not shared in other
questions that is relevant to living our earthly lives?
No
Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge or purpose?
No
What occurred during your experience included:
Content that was entirely not consistent with the beliefs you
had at the time of your experience. I believed that when we die
everything turns off and it's over. I didn't believe in heaven
or anything else. However, it is true that I grew up in a deeply
Catholic environment.
How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to
other life events that occurred around the time of the
experience?
I remember the experience more accurately than other life events
that occurred around that time. I barely remember other dreams;
however, I remember this experience as vividly as when I had it.
Discuss any changes that might have occurred in your life after your experience: I've tried to understand that experience, but I don't understand why it felt so different. I know that at that time, I was no longer mourning the death of my grandfather, and that puzzles me even more. The only thing I know is that it was beautiful, so when I think about the last time I saw my grandfather, I think about that experience and it makes me feel better.
My experience directly resulted in:
Slight changes in my life
Did you have any changes in your values or beliefs after the
experience that occurred as a result of the experience?
No
Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts
after your experience that you did not have before the
experience?
No
Are there one or several parts of your experience that are
especially meaningful or significant to you? Hugging
my grandfather and saying goodbye - I feel like it was a huge
step for both of us.
Have you ever shared this experience with others?
Yes. I have shared it with my partner and my father; they both
think it's just a dream and they don't treat me like a crazy
person.
Did you have any knowledge of near-death experience (NDE) prior
to your experience?
Yes. I learned about NDEs less than two weeks ago, that's why
I've decided to share my experience.
What did you believe about the reality of your experience
shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:
Experience was probably real. It felt real, I felt conscious,
it's not similar to my dreams at all.
What do you believe about the reality of your experience at the
current time: Experience
was probably real. I do not want to venture to say that there is
life after death; it is my belief but not a fact that one can
prove to others. But it looked so real... I don't know how to
feel.
Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your
experience?
Yes.
Now I try to find out more about my deceased relatives.
Have your religious beliefs/spiritual practices changed
specifically as a result of your experience?
No
At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part
of the experience?
No
Did the questions asked and information that you provided
accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?
Yes
What could a national organization with an interest in near death experience (NDE) do that would be of interest to you? I just want people to know what NDEs are, and for them to be studied so as to fulfill the reality of the brain.
No

No
No
esa experiencia, me hace sentir mejor.
No
No
experiencia?
La experiencia probablemente
fue real
No

Abrazar a mi abuelo y
