When I was in my early 20's in bed sleeping, I had this dream walking down a
dimly lit hospital hallway. It was quiet like a palliative care wing of a
hospital. I had this odd feeling as if
I knew where I was going.
During this time I'm neither concerned nor scared and then I find myself walking
into a patients room. Opposite to me is a hospital bed with a man laying down in
it and I immediately recognize him.
As if expecting to see me, he smiles as I’m walking in.
The person is the father of an ex-girlfriend.
I haven't seen the family nor my old girlfriend in over 2 years or had
any information about the family during this time. I say hi and ask him how he
is doing knowing full well that he
is dying. I didn't know what say to him.
We briefly talk to each other and while still smiling at me he says
everything is fine. I look around
the room and see both his daughters and his wife grieving/ sobbing
uncontrollably. I sense that they are unaware that I’m in the room with them as
if I was invisible to them. Even though they can't see me, I'm still feeling
awkward during this personal private moment.
I wake up feeling confused because what I just experienced wasn’t just any dream
that took place. This felt real, which had a profound effect on me for 3 days
after this experience. I have this need to get up and look out my bedroom
window. Not sure why, maybe to look for an answer to what just happened. Two
weeks later, I bump into one of her friends who I haven't seen in a long time
and she tells me about him dying, which was the same time of my dream. This is
when I realize that it wasn’t a dream but someone I haven’t seen in a while
saying good bye. I felt grateful to see him and reaching out to me at the time
of his passing. I have never forgotten this experience.
