He had been hospitalized for a while, around two weeks. My parents gave us little information on his condition (I.e. the reason for his hospitalization, his improvement/deterioration, etc) but we went to visit every day. He asked my mother to spend the night there so he wouldn't be lonely, but I had school so I was not allowed. That night I dreamt of him. We were on the porch swing at his house, eating plums from the tree in his backyard, and he was telling me stories about my dad and his son (my "uncle") when they were little and how they were always in trouble. After awhile he pulled me in close and gave me a big hug and a smile, said "Gotta go, sis," got up off the swing, and walked away. When I woke up, mom was at home crying on the couch; She then told us he'd died overnight.

Was the experience difficult to express in words?     No  

Did you hear the deceased or hear something associated with the deceased?   Yes   

Describe what you heard, how clearly you heard it and what was communicated:     He told me stories. It was clear as if he were actually there.  

Did the voice or sound seem to originate externally or outside of you, inside you, or did you not hear a voice or sound, but had a sense of knowing what was communicated?   He was beside me. 

If you heard a voice or sound, was it similar or dissimilar from the voice or sound the deceased made when they were alive?     It sounded like his voice, exactly.     

Is there any possibility what you heard was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?   No.  

Was there any possible impairment to your hearing at the time of the experience?   I was sleeping, but I don't think so.

Did you feel a touch or experience any physical contact from the deceased?   Yes  

Describe where and how you were touched:     He hugged me.

Was the touch familiar or unfamiliar?   Familiar.  

Was anything communicated by the touch?   Warmth and love.

Is there any possibility what you felt was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?   Unless my dad hugged me while I was sleeping, no.

Did you see the deceased?   Yes    He looked the same as when he was alive, only healthier.

How clearly did the deceased appear?   Solid.

How much of the deceased did you see?    All.

Did the deceased appear or not appear to be the age at which they died?   He appeared the same.

How healthy did the deceased appear to be?    He had more weight on him than when I last visited him.

Is there any possibility what you saw was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?    No.

Did you smell a distinct smell, scent, fragrance or odor associated with the deceased?    Uncertain

What smell, scent, fragrance or odor did you smell?    Pine trees, or shavings.

Was the smell, scent, fragrance or odor familiar?    Familiar, but can't place why.

Was anything communicated by the smell?    No.

Is there any possibility that the smell, scent, fragrance or odor was from any other source present in the surroundings at the time of your experience?    Not sure.

Could you sense the emotions or mood of the deceased?   Uncertain     He seemed happy.

Did the deceased give you information you did not previously know?   No. It was a story I'd heard about dad before.

How do you currently view the reality of your experience?    Experience was probably real    I feel like he wanted to allay my worries and tell me goodbye.

Was the experience dream like in any way?    No    It seemed as if I were really there.        

What was the best and worst part of your experience?    Speaking to him again was the best. The worst was him leaving.            

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?    Yes    I believed I could communicate with him even though he's dead.

Did the experience give you any spiritual understandings such as life, death, afterlife, God, etc.?    No    

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?   No

Was the experience witnessed or experienced by others?    Uncertain    I have never told anyone.

Did you see a light?    No    Only the "sun."
