My friend and I decided to get a bit of marijuana for New Year's Eve 1999/2000 to welcome the new millennium. We hadn't used any in a long time, so we decided to 'test it out' a couple of weeks before New Year's Eve.
My friend hosted a small gathering at his house, and a group of us were enjoying hanging out. When high, I used to like to close my eyes and watch what I thought of as 'movies' on the back of my eyelids -they would be cartoon-like images that rapidly changed, and morphed, like a kaleidoscope. I had never ever experienced a persistent image or form. I also liked to stare into a dark room for the same reason, because the same images that appeared in the back of my eyelids could also seem to appear in a dark room.
I went to the doorway of my friend's bedroom and looked into the darkness, eyes fully open. Rather than seeing the typical images, I noticed a column of white light on the other side of the room. I thought it may have been something coming in from the hallway, or through the bedroom window, but it was completely dark in there except for the light. I stared at it some more, and then it turned into a woman. She was completely made out of white light but had detailed features like a sculpture. She hovered in the air several feet in front of me, and seemed to be about 1-2 feet high. She started dancing around in what looked like a dress or gown. For some reason, I decided that I should listen to messages from her, and the second I did, I instantly heard something that sounded like 'Emelle, Emelle' over and over in my head in a very clear voice. I guess since I was high, I didn't really question what was going on, but it seemed peaceful, natural, and beautiful, even loving. I had no fear of it. I think then I had the inclination to go tell my friend about it, so I left the room and went to the living room where my friend was hanging out. I told him there was a lady in his room that gave me the message 'Emelle' - I said maybe it's initials, like 'M.L.' He told me that actually, his cousin 'Emily' was in town, and he was supposed to call her. It was on his mind that day. I decided to go back and get more messages for him.
So I went back to his room, saw the column of light again, and when I did, the same woman appeared and this time she was swinging a golf club, and said 'Golf, golf, golf' over and over - this message was very unambiguous, to say the least. When I went back to my friend I said, 'here's your next message, 'Golf'', and he told me that he had gone out that very day with a real estate agent that day to look at a building (he was trying to find a new space to move his business), and the building happened to be next to a golf course, so the realtor made some jokes and conversation with him about golf. Neither of us are golfers, and never typically discussed golf, but that day the word 'golf' was relevant to him. This same process continued. The next word I got from the dancing lady was 'Dan' - My friend told me that he had been going over a long list of names of people to whom he would send holiday gifts as part of his business. He had all the addresses he needed, except for one person named 'Dan' whose address he had to explicitly look up. I stayed in the living room and was sitting next to my friend's piano which he had just received a week ago. The name 'Irma' came into my head with the same voice as the dancing lady.
I asked my friend what 'Irma' meant to him, and he told me it was the name of the piano at a club in Los Angeles called 'The Magic Castle' which plays any song you ask it to play - it's secretly connected to another piano in another room, but it looks like it's playing itself. When his piano arrived the previous week, he ended up discussing 'Irma' with family members who were over at the time. Then I heard the name 'Harry' and I asked who that was, and he told me 'Harry' was the name of the uncle in Texas who had sent him the piano because he was no longer using it. I also saw a date in my head, and told my friend, and he had just bought plane tickets to go on a business trip on that date.
None of these facts were known to me, and yet they were all highly
relevant to my friend. When we
discussed this in the days afterward, he reminded me that he was living in his
grandparents' old house and that he had moved in when his grandmother was still
alive, and he cared for her up until she died.
She actually passed away in the very bedroom where I saw the 'dancing
lady'. He asked me about her
dancing, and when I described it, he told me that his Grandmother had been an
avid dancer, and used to dance around the living room to get her exercise - He
remembered sitting on the couch and watching her as a little boy.
He then found a memory book she had made for him before she died, and
inside was a picture of her as a 3-year-old girl in a white ballerina outfit.
We went to his bedroom, and with the light on in there, I realized there
was no way for any column of light to have come into that room and reflected on
the opposite wall. We played with
the door, the lights in the hallway, and everything else we could think of and
couldn't get the light to appear.
I have never had an experience like that again, sober or high.
Clearly, my friend's grandmother was trying to communicate with him, to
remind him of her presence. She had
told him something right before he died, and he didn't listen to her advice, but
at this time in his life, the advice was very relevant to him, and her
reappearance reminded him of it.
